From John Woodall, France

As with everyone who has shared memories of Bob on this page, I was deeply saddened to know of his passing, and would add my condolences to his close family and friends. It was relatively late that I came to know Bob, and will remember him, not only for his unique expertise in his chosen field, but as a man of the world, intent on putting principles into practice. And reflected in his immense joie de vivre, as occasionally (during the time he spent at the ILO reviewing the process of developing the concept of the social protection floor) ruminating on the state of the world over an evening glass (or two) of beer, more lately in his vivid notes on community life in Hebden Bridge.
